Aloha to the Big Island - Keauhou Bay (part 2) Black Sand Beach
Our condo overlooked a rocky beach ....
... littered with coral!
The rocky beach gives way ....
... to black sand and coral chips!
Oh, a cave to explore ... maybe home to the menehune!
Walking back to the road, I discovered a bounty of color ...
... the yellow hibiscus is the state flower.
The pink hibiscus also prospers in Hawaii!
I also found a colorful house ...
... with Chinese accents throughout the property!
Do you have any colorful flowers or houses in your neighborhood? One randomly selected commenter from this week's blogs wins a book choice from my convention stash. This giveaway is open to all readers. Comments are open through Saturday, September 1, 10 pm in Hawaii. I'll post the winner on Sunday, September 2.

I've seen some cherry blossom trees around the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteyes, rose, orchid :)
ReplyDeleteYes, lilacs and rose bushes. As far as house goes I did see one that was painted in bright colors.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of color in flowers here in southern Texas. Not so much on houses, though; there are fairly sedate.
ReplyDeleteNope, I live in the city so I don't see many flowers unless I go to the park. Love your photos though!
ReplyDeleteI don't have too many flowers because we have deer around here that eat them. I do have some nice Butterfly bushes and some Rose of Sharon that they don't bother.
ReplyDeleteWe do have some houses with beautiful flowers. Unfortunately, not mine.
ReplyDeleteI love your flower pics. Yes, there are pretty flowers around everywhere but we're pretty bland when it comes to houses - mostly brick. Every once in a while someone paints their siding a color like blue and it stands out like a sore thumb lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics! We have a purple house in the neighborhood. The onwer had it painted purple a couple of years ago and I've grown fond of it over time. She's got some butterfly accents attached to the outside of the house and when I walk by it makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteI'm having THE best time following you around Hawaii from my chair, LOL! Rhododendron blooms here at the beginning of summer. My favorite swimming hole in the mountains is surrounded by them and when in bloom it's such a beautiful sight.
ReplyDeleteNice pictures. Yes, there are.
ReplyDeleteSo,pretty pics, I have nice plants

Can't think of any colorful houses near me. Nor have I seen too many flowers because we're so dry. I'm fortunate to have purple sage bushes that bloom several times a year and I happen to think it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've seen pink sand in Bermuda, but never black sand. I'd love to see it! No colorful houses in my neighborhood - we have a CCR against it! Boo Hiss...
ReplyDeleteWe have blossom trees all around the neighbourhood so come spring time, there are lots of different shades of pink and white all around :)
