Jane walks in peace at the Byodo-In Temple

Continuing Jane's visit to Oahu as part of Sourcebooks' promotion, Around the World with Jane Austen:

In the June memoir, All Roads Lead to Austen, the author Amy Elizabeth Smith took Jane Austen’s works along with her as she traveled to foreign countries. Her goal was to see if the magic of Jane Austen could hold its power across borders, languages and cultures.

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the US ... to celebrate, Jane and I visited the Byodo-In Temple.  From its website (at this link),

The Byodo-In Temple is located at the foot of the Ko'olau Mountains in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It was established on June 7, 1968, to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. The Byodo-In Temple in O'ahu is a smaller-scale replica of the over 950-year-old Byodo-in Temple, a United Nations World Heritage Site in Uji, Japan..

Jane meets Buddha.

Jane rings the bell for good luck.

Jane enjoys the gardens ...

.... and looks for koi.

Jane meets a fellow expat, Sherlock Holmes,
in the Zen garden!

Inside the temple.

Outside the gift shop.

The gift shop is home to a tri-color cat -
considered lucky for the temple!

In the peace garden.

Peace is universal.

The flowers are gorgeous.

Trying to be creative in posing ...

Do you have a place that offers peace - a church? park? garden?  One randomly selected commenter from this week's blogs wins a book choice from my convention stash.  This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, May 19, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, May 20.

  3. Lovely pictures. I have a covered back porch with a small patch of woods behind me. When the neighbors aren't running their electric gadgets, it's peaceful.

  4. Really love the cute pic of Jane and Sherlock. I don't have a specific place, but it might be the park in my neighborhood or by the pier.
