Jane Austen takes the waters at Hickam Beach

Continuing Jane's visit to Oahu as part of Sourcebooks' promotion, Around the World with Jane Austen:

In the June memoir, All Roads Lead to Austen, the author Amy Elizabeth Smith took Jane Austen’s works along with her as she traveled to foreign countries. Her goal was to see if the magic of Jane Austen could hold its power across borders, languages and cultures.

Jane takes the waters at Hickam Beach ....

Jane admires the the Hawaiian State Flag,
which honors the connection between
the Kingdom of Hawaii and Great Britain.

Jane is glad that the Air Force
warns impertinent young ladies,
like Louisa Musgrove, of its danger.

Jane can rescue Louisa should she jump into the water!

A castle that Catherine Morland would not find Gothic!

An anchor worthy of Captain Wentworth!

What do you like to do at the beach?  One randomly selected commenter from this week's blogs wins a book choice from my convention stash.   This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, May 19, 10 pm in Hawaii.   I'll post the winner on Sunday, May 20.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

Mrs. Bennet would have vapors to see
any young lady posing with a savage statue!

  1. I like to listen to the sounds of the water and enjoy the view of the water/waves. If I'm someplace where the waters are warm, I like to get in the water and snorkel.

  2. When I used to go to the beach when I was a kid, I would go in the water up to my ankles and that's as far as I would go in.

  3. My favorite thing is to read while hearing the surf and the birds and the smell of the ocean and the wonderful breezes with an occasional cooling off in the water.

  4. I love this idea and wish I had thought of it. I just wish I had a color printer so I could print this awesome picture to take around with me. I'm sure my daughter Clare would love to help out. Maybe Jane Austen at a rock concert??? :)
