Aloha to Ka'ena Point and Makaha Cave

I recently met two military spouses - Nadja and Renee - who are also published authors.  They speak my speak!   We get together once a week to explore the island!   On Thursday, we drove west to the end of the  island - Ka'ena Point.

Ka'ena Point is excellent for whale watching ...
... but we didn't spot any in the distance.

The sea was still entertaining!

Renee, Nadja and Ivy!

Looking back towards Yokohama Bay.

We stopped in the Makaha Cave, the legendary
home of the shapeshifting shark.

No doubt the cave is used as a teen hangout.

Do you have a local legend?  One randomly selected commenter will win a book choice from my conventions stash.  This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, January 28, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, January 29.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

Looking up, we could see the Air Force's satellite balls!

  3. Aloha Kim . I have a local legend in which once upon a time there are 7 goddesses come to take a bath in a lake and a guy stole one of the goddes dress. He eventually married her but the guy always been harsh to his wife n his wife eventually left him. This is sad though give me sn interesting point of view that we as a Human must appreciate what we have. Cheers aretha_zhen@yahoo.com

  6. Great post & wonderful pics, Kim! Thanks for sharing! I live in Udine & there is a legend about a hill on which Udine Castle stands. A legend says that the hill was built with the ground transported by Attila's (the great hun emperor) soldiers in their helmets, in order to create a rise, from which their chief could see the city of Aquileia (one of the biggest cities of the Roman Empire) burning after his devastating crossing.

  7. We do have a rumor about the elusive Jackalope. Part Jack rabbit, part Antelope. When I first got to Vegas and worked in a gift shop downtown and saw the statues of the bunny with antlers I thought it was true...but it's not. The statue was just a stuffed jack rabbit that a taxidermist had affixed some little antlers to.

  10. Beautiful photos. We have the local legend about Kate Morgan, the lady whose ghost haunts the Hotel Del Coronado. People love to book that room just to see if anything spooky will happen during their stay there.
