Aloha to Barbara at Bellows Beach

I am posting pictures from my mother's visit so her friends in Florida and England can see Hawaii!  Today we ventured to Bellows Beach on Oahu's windward side.  Bellows Beach is a Air Force Station whose runway was attacked on December 7, 1941.  Bellows now hosts Marine Corps training (landing on the beach), family vacations (lying on the beach), and
Hawaii Five O (filming on the beach).

Barbara reads MONK GOES TO HAWAII, "Tremendously entertaining and true to the Hawaiian spirit!"

Barbara poses with David (left) and Andrew (right) with Makapu'u ("bulging eye") in the background.

Funny how changing directions lightens the picture!  Mokalua ("two islands") are in the background.  We were just south of Kailua ("two seas") where the First Family vacations each year for their winter holiday.

Barbara soaks up the sun on a rock reef!

Span out to see how Makapu'u rolls into the Ko'olau ("windward") Mountain Range.

These teenagers created a mermaid!

Walking back to our chairs, we soaked up the scenery.   I am giving away a 2012 Hawaiian calendar to one randomly selected commenter.  This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments open through Tuesday, January 10, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Wednesday, January 11, when I'll resume my regular once-a-week posts.

Kim in Hawaii

Review of Hawaiian words:

Makapu'u - bulging eye
Mokalua - two islands
Kailua - two seas
Ko'olau - windward

  1. What lovely pictures. IT is so dreary here. Wish I was there!

  2. Wonderful pictures. I would love to jump in a plane and come to Hawaii

  3. Beautiful beach. We have pretty beaches here in San Diego, but they don't compare to the beautiful tropical beaches of Hawaii. And the warm water there too.

  4. I am impressed that you know the names of all of the surrounding formations (I have no sense of direction so am always confused about which island is where, lol).
