Stirling Castle is breathtaking.  From Historic Scotland (at this link),

It towers over some of the most important battlefields of Scotland’s past including Stirling Bridge, the site of William Wallace’s victory over the English in 1297, and Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce defeated the same foe in the summer of 1314.

Robert the Bruce guards the castle.

On the other side of the Stirling Bridge is the William Wallace Memorial.  It is a quiet area to reflect upon Scotland's heroes.

Today comments are open forum.   One randomly selected commenter from this week's blogs wins a book choice from my convention stash.  This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, December 1, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, December 2.

  8. The William Wallace Memorial reminds me of the castle where Rapunzel was kept in the movie Tangled.

  11. Hi Kim!

Your photos are wonderful! Can I take you along on our next vacation? Our pictures usually end up having a lot of feet in them instead of the expected castle!

The one thing I loved about our trip to Scotland was feeling like I had finally returned home! My ancestors left from Glasgow on a ship captained by one of my ancestors and ended up landing in Connecticut and from there the family spread out all over the country! The problem is their name was Ryon (that's right - spelled with an O so we they Scotish or English? Still haven't been able to find out but will keep trying to unravel the past someday!

The wonderful part of Scotland is the history that has been preserved so people from all over the world can visit and enjoy the diversity of the country. From the lowlands to the highland the past calls to you and draws you into the conflicts of the past and the brave people who fought for their country to remain free from tyrany.
