Aloha to Maui - Lahaina

Lahaina is Maui's "Jewel in the West". From Hawaii Web (at this link),

Lahaina may, at first glance, seem like just another seashore town. But this lovely and picturesque city is full of life and brimming with history! Day or night, Lahaina is a site not to be missed. Lahaina started as an ancient Hawaiian fishing village. Then westerners and their tall ships began sailing to the islands and Lahaina became a popular town due to it's natural harbor. Several of the buildings and much of the history of the area revolves around those early years of the 1800's.

I found several romance books at the Old Lahaina Book Emporium!

Is it a coincidence that a lingerie store is nearby?

David gives the shaka to the dancing hula lady!

Driving back to Kihei, we spotted the Olowalu Cultural Reserve ....

... with a large collection of petroglyphs.

Maui delivers a gorgeous sunset!   Where is your favorite book store?  One randomly selected commenter from this week's blogs will win a book choice from my convention stash.   This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, April 7, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, April 8.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

I have a new promotion for April - CLEAN OUT MY CONVENTION STASH. I will select one US reader, one Canadian reader, and one International reader from all my blogs posts in April at SOS ALOHATHE READING REVIEWER, and ALOHA ON MY MIND. The US winner can select up to 10 books (to fill up a small flat rate box) from my current convention stash to make room for new books coming from RT 2012. The Canadian and International readers can select one book, too!

CLEAN OUT MY CONVENTION STASH is open through Monday, April 30, 10 pm in Hawaii. I'll post the winner on Tuesday, May 1.

  1. Ny favorite book store is either Wal Mart or the PX. I find those are the two places I spend a lot of time at. I frequent Wal Mart a lot more than the PX but for books the PX offers the same discount MINUS the sales tax. I also hit Amazon for e-books, although not as often as I'm old fashioned and don't have an e-reader. I have Nook & Kindle for PC but the laptop isn't that convenient to haul around to doctors' appointments or a restaurant. Yes I read at the table, I'm single and while I wait for the order I can read several pages.

  2. Uhm that should start with MY not Ny-sheepish face here. Kim I think you are so lucky. I never got to the outer islands with my husband, I did with my mom the year before we were assigned there. The final year in Hawaii we spent Spring Break on The Big Island near the Volcano House in the military cabins there.

  3. I like the Strand, but it's so huge that it can be hard to look for a specific book. I also love browsing the shelves at BN.

  5. In town I usually go to the local Barnes and Noble. But if I'm somewhere else I always like to pop in smaller bookstores that I happen upon.

  6. My favorite bookstore is our one-half store. I get lots of bargains. I also shop at B&N. They have a bargain table that I like to check out. I also shop on line at both B&N and Amazon.

  7. Honestly, a bookstore in Hawaii sounds like paradise in paradise.

But, since I don't live there, I'll choose my local Half-Price Books store.

  9. Our Borders closed but we do have a Barnes & Nobel. There's also a neat Mystery Lovers Bookshop but it's not somewhere I drive to myself. I seem to get most of my books online now although it's not as much fun.

  15. My favourite bookstore is a local independent bargain bookstore that always have discounts, even for newly published books. I also really like buying from The Book Depository online because of the free shipping.

  16. I'm just amazed how very much History in Hawaii. Thanks for the pics and stories Kim. Our Borders closed and so now we have Barnes and Noble and one quaint book store in Maplewood Village 5 minutes from my house. They are very small and really don't have much in the way of Historical Romance.

  17. Personally I do not have a favorite as the books I tend to like are almost always the ones I cannot find so sometimes it is a search game! So not really one in particular !
