Aloha to the Gateway to Paradise!

I live near the airport and popped over to check out the recently renovated USO Lounge.  Here's a few photos from the gateway to paradise ....

We have a large influx of Asian tourists.

Oversized luggage includes golf clubs and surfboards.

The lava-lava the Samoan word for a cloth worn as a skirt by men and women.   It is a popular uniform for the transport companies.

Newly arrived military personnel appreciate a smiling face and helpful directions.

Inside the USO Lounge, a hula girl pays tribute to the Medal of Honor recipients.   How far do you live from the airport?  One randomly selected commenter from this week's blogs wins a book choice from my convention stash.  This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, May 18, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, May 19, at The Reading Reviewer.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

I join the USO in supporting deployed troops!

  2. Hi Kim!

Our local Airport is officially caloed the Theodore Francis Green Airport and is located in Warwick, RI but no one calls it that! Instead not only here but if you're making reservations on-line it's called the Providence Airport!

Since we live in southern RI and the Airport is in the middle of the state you would think that we would have a long drive to get there but in fact it's only about 20 miles away and is about a 30 minute drive but then this is Rhode Island after all and if you drive more than 30 miles in any direction you've either driven out of the state or into the ocean!

When my younger son was a "Nob", or what most schools call a Freshman, at The Citadel in Charleston, SC, the first time he was able to fly home to visit on his way back we got all the way to the Airport and he realized he left his hat at home (as a Freshman they have to travel in uniform). Worried that he'd get demerits if he arrived back without it my older son flew into action and ran back to the car to go get it while he was waiting in line to get checked in. We're still wondering all these years later exactly how fast he was driving when he made it back to the Airport, parked and brought it back to his "little brother" so he wouldn't get in trouble when he returned to school!

  4. Thanks for the great post! I live about 30 minutes away from our local airport. It's mid size so it's easy to navigate and fast!

  5. With no traffic (which there is never no traffic) we could be there in 45 min. but it is always over an hour, maybe hour and a half most of the time.

  6. Live near five airports, including "the world's oldest continually operated" where Wilbur Wright trained military pilots. Nice museum.

  8. I think we are a good hour plus to the DFW airport. But I won't drive there - the traffic is horrendous! I have all I can do to drive to the park 'n fly place.

  9. We are about a twenty minute drive from our airport in San Diego. But, we do have a small airfield about 4 miles from our house, we little planes are always flying overhead.
