Pro Bowl at Aloha Stadium

My children and I attended the Pro Bowl at Aloha Stadium!

  

As my son pointed out in line, this the one time
that it is OK to wear a variety of jerseys!

The National Anthem always gives me goosebumps.

Joint Honor Guard from Pacific Command

The National Anthem was sung by an Air Force Sergeant.

  

The coin toss included the ranking admiral on the island.

The cheerleaders wore white "go go" boots except for:
- two teams wore white cowboy boots
- two teams wore black "go go" boots
- one team wore red "go go" boots
- one team wore white Keds. 

The Mascots goofing off ....

... they were entertaining!

And we watched football!

During half time, each service marched onto the field.
First was the Coast Guard from Barber's Point.
The Guardians are smaller than the other services.

  

Upper right is the Army in their new "blue" uniforms.
Lower right is the Navy in traditional "sailor" uniform.

  

Upper left are the Marines.  Lower left is the Air Force.
In the middle is the Old Guard Drill Team.

Notice the pregnant Air Force woman in the
third row from right, second from bottom.

We had a great day!

My kids were exhausted from cheering!

Aloha to the Colors of Hawaii

Missing Man Formation overlooking the Pearl Harbor Channel;

Two weeks ago, I rode my bike across the base to soak up the colors of Hawaii.

Red, white, blue, and silver.

Green palms blowing in the wind.

Red berries from the palm tree.

Bird of Paradise

Green and yellow plants.

White sailboat on blue sea.

Red .... 

Orange .... 

  

Purple.

  

The white sailboat passes the red chairs.

The dog enjoys the sandbar.

  

I discovered this marker on Fort Kamehameha.

This is the heiau (temple) ... 

... where Hawaiians still leave gifts for their gods.

I caught the white spray of the crashing waves.

Aloha to Ka'ena Point and Makaha Cave

I recently met two military spouses - Nadja and Renee - who are also published authors.  They speak my speak!   We get together once a week to explore the island!   On Thursday, we drove west to the end of the  island - Ka'ena Point.

Ka'ena Point is excellent for whale watching ...
... but we didn't spot any in the distance.

The sea was still entertaining!

We stopped in the Makaha Cave, the legendary
home of the shapeshifting shark.

No doubt the cave is used as a teen hangout.

Aloha to Scout Camping at Bellows Beach

My older son's Boy Scout Troop hosted the Webelos II (including my younger son) during a camp out at Bellow Beach.  Actually, it is Bellows Air Force Station that happens to have an awesome beach (at this link)    Since the Webelos II are still Cub Scouts, a "responsible" adult was required to attend.  I stayed in a cabin nearby the camp site.

Here's my cabin overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

To the left is one of two islands collectively
named Mokulua (Two Islands).

To the right is the beach with the
Ko'olau Mountains in the background.

In the distance is Rabbit Island (left)
and Mokapu Outlook (right).

Here's our den leader ...

An Army mom who did sleep in a tent!

Sherry came for the day as her husband flew
home from Seattle to swap out for the night. 

  

One patrol cooked the dinner .... 

... while others played football with the Webelos

Since Andrew is tall, he is quarterback!

The palms remind me that I live in Paradise!

The sun rising outside my cabin.

A rainbow sent the scouts home with good cheer.

I drove home two Webelos - David and Elijah.
We stopped at the Halona Outlook. 

To the right is the beach scene in the WWII movie,
FROM HERE TO ETERNITY.

  

It was windy and the surf was high.

To the left is Sandy Beach, popular for kite flyers.

One last stop - the Koko Head Outlook.
